Baker-Swan getting ready for Saturday dedication
Sep 4, 2017Adding to the original Button house, the funeral home has gone from having roughly 1,800 square feet of space to about 4,600 square feet.“We’ve still got a few odds and ends that we’ll do in the next week,” owner Bud Baker said Friday morning. “We’ve got the landscaping done now. The sidewalks are in. The flowers are in.”The dedication the funeral home has been preparing for will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday and the open house, with refreshments, will follow from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.Those attending the dedication will include Deb Aumick, a representative for state Sen. Catharine Young, and Scio Town Supervisor Kimberly Demick, Baker said. People will be able to watch the dedication at www.baker-swan.com.“Pastor Mark Chamberlain of Genesis Bible Church will be doing the service,” he said. “It’s just important that we dedicate this. This is a primary focus of our ministry.”With the expansion, the main viewing room that was built can seat 140 to 145 people, Baker said. There is room for around 75 more chairs in the atrium just outside the main viewing room.“We can handle about 250. Beyond that, we would have some serious issues with parking,” Baker said. “We can handle about 80 cars. We can handle about 50 in the main parking lot.”Baker said aside from the main parking lot, there is an auxiliary parking lot as well as other parking spots.In the funeral home, there are screens in different rooms so people who aren’t in the main viewing room to watch a service may still see and hear it.“We have webcasting if the family has relatives in distant states and they can’t travel. They can go to our website (www.baker-swan.com) and use a password,” he said. “We’ve actually had family members from Australia view the service live.”Baker said the funeral home’s goal is to not have to serve more than one family at a time, but added the larger Riverside Drive location can hold multiple services if needed.
